Steve, Possible problems with codec conflicts or corruption as you suggest certainly seems plausible. How would one go about correcting a situation like this? Currently I am trying to run with Windows Media Player version 7. I have reloaded this version followed by reloading the codec using WM9Codecs9X.exe, but this doesn't appear to have any effect.
