Several months ago, MSFT stock took a tumble
when GOOG simply announced that in the future they would put out an OS.
The particulars of that vaporware are becoming more clear
and, as suspected, the hysteria was premature.
The commercial version will be called Google Chrome OS.
The current open source project is called Chromium
and Google just released the source code for it under a BSD-like license.
It is intended for current-production hardware only.
(Forget putting it on your i586.)
It will load from firmware.
It doesn't support hard drives.
It is stripped-down and all the apps will be in the fog (Cloud computing).
In short, you can get a Linux-in-firmware computer now
that will do more than the systems using this "OS" will.
