My PC:
IE 6.0.2800.1106, updated through Q916281.
Using Firefox 2.0.
MFG 5/24/99. Gateway 1510915.CEL
Essential 400C. PentiumII. 400MHz.
WIN98(1st ed).
Total Size: 4GB
Running Avast Antivirus and
Zone Firewall version:6.1.744.001;
using Ad-Aware.
How do I configure for DSL?
This PC had DSL before, but a guy came to install it.
(I wasn't home to watch). I tried installing Virtual Private Networking
and Add New Hardware. It's a Westell Wirespeed Dual Connect Modem,
6100 series. Apparently I installed it twice, because
Control Panel> Network now lists this modem twice, along with 2 TCP/IP
listings for it, among other things, including Network Everywhere Fast
Ethernet Adapter(NC100v2). (Does this listing mean I still have the Ethernet Card
required? I thought maybe my brother stole it.) The new modem still isn't listed
in Control Panel>Modems, but I think I remember it wouldn't. Also, don't I need
the IP Address and Subnet Mask? They don't provide it. Googling verizon dsl and
28771 (my zip), I found three likely sites: http://www.broadbandreports.com/faq/1591,
http://opentracker.info
/en/demo/demo1.jsp and http://www.realvnc.com/pipermail/vnc-list/2006-September/056003.html
but I don't understand the 1st two and the second is old.
Please don't tell me it's hopeless --this is my only chance to
upload my tunes and install SE.
