To track down the specs try looking for the model name and number on the sticker
on the back.
It reminds me of the time I tried to install a USB 2.0 card and Windows wouldn't
boot up. I removed it and all was well. Did you try removing the net card again to
see if the computer starts normally?
Do you have another net card to try? Perhaps an older second hand one might better
suit her hardware.
If all else fails you may have to do a clean install.
Unless granny is a keen gamer with a stack of games that require 9x she would be
better off with Win2000 than 98 on that old box.
