Blaming all security lapses on the software is a bit like blaming all motor accidents
on vehicle defects.
The great majority of security problems can be eliminated by educating users appropriately.
You will have noticed that in the case of Google, the problems began when users
fell for an apparently-legitimate email scam. The software weakness only made it
possible; it was lack of training, security-consciousness, and proper policy which
made it happen.
Since Windows 2000 it has been possible to make every single computer invisible to
the internet. Ultimately this means that all security problems arise from wrong
decisions made by users. Sounds tough? Suck it up.
Companies have got to learn that training doesn't cost money, it saves money, and
this is nowhere more true than in computer security. But will they ever learn?
99% instal NOD32 or Norton AV and they think they have done enough.
