Thanks, as I said, we took it in to the shop yesterday, so we'll see if they can fix it!

I doubt it's a hardware problem...it's probably the wireless card driver (I have other reasons to suspect that, btw), or a Windows corruption thing.

It's possible it's also the wireless card itself...we'll see. In my experience, most of these issues are software-related, not hardware.  I'm not an expert like you guys, but I have had computers since the early 90's and had many problems and learned quite a bit while trying to fix them. It has rarely been a hardware issue.

The pc has always been on broadband, it's just that it came with a dialup modem that I never or rarely used. Originally, in 2000, it was my only computer, so it was connected directly to the DSL modem.  A year or so later, I moved and had newer computers with windows XP, so I paid someone to set up a network. He is the one that put in the wireless card so that all of my computers could be connected to each other as well as get online. This PC was across the room from the main computer and the modem, and I didn't want a wire running across the room, so that's why he put in a wireless card.

It worked for a long time, but in the past year has had some connection issues. Like for instance, sometimes it was not able to get online, or the other computers could not see it on the network.  So that may have meant that the wireless card was going, or there was something getting corrupted...not sure. I have certainly seen my share of other network problems over the years that had nothing to do with that particular computer.

I'm hoping it's only a driver problem because they will charge less to fix that!

I was never told to back up drivers before, that is interesting. I think usually I just downloaded any needed driver upgrades.

Again, thanks for your help!

Suzanne
