Good Morning Folks,
I am a newcomer to this board and am very impressed with the expertise that I have
seen. Already, thanks to a suggestion that I saw here, I fixed a problem that this
third party software caused. But there is still one annoying problem that remains.
Anyway, here is my situation.
I have Windows ME software. Sorry, I know these boards are for windows 98 but I
hope you'll make allowances for me since there is not an ME Board yet.
Because of the troublesome software (not mentioning it because I'm not sure if you're
suppose to do that or not), the icons on my control panel, desktop and menu bar settings,
became messed up. Thanks to a suggestion on this board about deleting the shell
cache icon file, everything is fine except the menu bar settings.
No matter what color I set it in display settings under the menu bar option, it continues
to be an ugly gray color that I despise. Here is what I have done to try and solve
the problem:
1. Reinstalled ME. Not a clean reinstall. Caused more problems than it was worth.
2. Tried using the restore function as I downloaded the software on 6/3. There
weren't any points I could have gone back to in June and for some reason, I couldn't
go back to May.
3. Deleted all entries that I know of in the registry that referenced the troublesome
program. Used the search function on the computer to delete all other entries pertaining
to the software.
4. Used Ad-ware and reg. cleaner to delete unnecesary files in the hope that maybe
they would get files that I had missed.
It seems that my only remaining option is to do a clean install of ME, which I am
very reluctant to do. So if anyone has any other suggestions, I would greatly appreciate
it.
