I wiped out everything and started with a clean slate. No Win98, no System Commander...just
a big ol' 30 GB HDD (with 1 NTFS partition and 4 FAT32) and Win2k. The install went
pretty well, so I went to the Windows Update site and installed all the Critical
Updates, MSIE 5.5, DX8, and a few other minor things. So far, so good.
I then grabbed the Win2k Service Pack 1 (I avoided SP2, like you suggested) and
installed it...BOOM!! Inaccessible Boot Device! Again, I tried the various repair
options with no success.
So, I nuked the whole thing and reinstalled it yet again (at least I'm getting
good at that). So far, so good...but I'm giving the Service Packs a wide berth. I'm
not having any shutdown issues, which was what I was posting about in ther first
place, but I have yet to install anything beyond the Windows Updates. I'll keep you
informed...the software is going in as soon as this hits the board. Guess what I'll
be doing all night...?
