Just to add to the article Scotterpops pointed you to. If you wish to connect
directly into the hub you'll want to buy one that's made specifically for this as
they have security features not available in your average active hub. I know Linksys
makes the type of hub you'ld want, look on their site for information regarding a
cablemodem hub. It should have a built in proxy as well as firewall. They are rather
pricey. If you'ld like to save a little money, buy a regular hub and a second NIC
for your computer and use yours to serve the internet out to hers and any others
you may have. I highly recommend Sygate, they make a good proxy server software
and their homenetwork product also has a firewall. However, I don't know how high
that firewall rates. I do know that Zonealarm makes a very good firewall. For a
LAN the professional version is easier to use.
