Multiple Duplications on StartUp List

When I go to START, RUN, type in msconfig, ENTER, click on StartUp tab, I am presented with an increasingly long list of items, containing multiple duplications (2, sometimes 3 of the same item). I know this is the result of installs/uninstalls, re-installs, etc. but I want to be able to in some way edit the list back down to only a single listing of every item and the accompanying "check boxes". Also, there is one item that when I un-check the box and re-start my computer, somehow automatically is checked again (Roxio's Go Back Tray Icon). I do not mind editing the Registry super carefully, of course, if that is required. Any suggestions will be gratefully received--and tried.
