Not necessarily, Paul...according to "Startup Cop", the first instance
of
LoadPowerProfile has a higher loading priority, as it's used by all users. The
second instance is used only by the current user.
I'm the only user of my computer; trial and error indicates that EITHER, but
not both, can be unchecked.

Try Startup
Cop. It's free, and will help you get rid of unwanted items (not just stop
them running). BTW, if you have LoadPowerProfile in the list, there
SHOULD
be two instances.

When I go to START, RUN, type in msconfig, ENTER, click on StartUp tab, I am
presented with an increasingly long list of items, containing multiple
duplications (2, sometimes 3 of the same item). I know this is the result of
installs/uninstalls, re- installs, etc. but I want to be able to in some way
edit the list back down to only a single listing of every item and the
accompanying "check boxes". Also, there is one item that when I un-check the
box and re-start my computer, somehow automatically is hecked again (Roxio's Go
Back Tray Icon). I do not mind editing the Registry super carefully, of course,
if that is required. Any suggestions will be gratefully received-- and tried.
