I tried your process both under KEY_LOCAL_MACHINE and HKEY_CURRENT_USER. There is no effect on the location of the ICONs or the capability to remember where they were when I shut down. Thanks for the try! I've been at this for some time! I've even formated a second hard drive and reloaded everthing which works for a while but sooner or later the problem comes back. By the way the problem is only under one user profile the other user profiles are fine!
