I have a comment about Prevent Programs From Changing Your File Types:

Another option for people tired of extension changing applications, or with "multi-purpose" editors that can handle a wide range of filetypes is the right-click "Send To" menu. I've placed shortcuts to UltraEdit, Photoshop, Word, IE, and a few other utilities in c:\windows\Send To so I can open any document in my prefered editor with a few mouse clicks and much less scrolling than Shift-Right-Click=>Open With... Hope this helps someone.
