Question about 'How do I make the background of desktop icon text a certain color instead of transparent?'

I have a question about How
do I make the background of desktop icon text transparent?:
I tried the "disappear.exe" utility and it worked ok but I decided that the effect
didn't work well with the wallpaper pic I'm using. When I stopped using it, it turned
the background color around the text to white. Nothing wrong with white but I like
the green color I previously had. I tried "microngelo" to turn it back to green
and it worked...but, when I was done I didn't want microangelo running anymore and
uninstalled it. Guess what? (I know you savvy users know this...) It turned back
to white!
So, any good suggestions on the easiest way to set the background color for the icon
text without having a memory resident program running? I understand that it is necessary
to have a program running if you want to keep the icon text background transparent,
but there must be a way just to set the color and leave it, right?
I'd appreciate any help on this. Its a minor thing but for me its a real...annoyance.
Thanks!
Luke
