Defragging Windows Swap File

The one file Defrag does not defragment is the swap file (Win386.swp), but this is
the one file of all which, when fragmented, will most hamper system peformance.
Here's the method I discovered on my own for defragging it along with the entire
C: drive --
1. Shut down Windows to DOS Mode.
2. At the C:\WINDOWS prompt, type ERASE WIN386.SWP.
3. Press Ctrl-Alt-Del to reboot, then hold down the Ctrl key while the sytem restarts.
4. At the special boot-options screen, select Safe Mode. Windows will not re-create
the swap file when it reboots via this method.
5. Run Defrag. Push the View Details button and note the absence of that big wad
of 'unmovable' files near the end of the drive -- this means the swap file is not
there.
6. After Defrag finishes, restart the computer in the normal fashion. Windows will
re-create the swap file, but will only be able to do so at the beginning of blank
space on the drive, which means that it will be written into a virtually contiguous
block.
7. The swap file, as well as the rest of the drive, is now degragmented.
