You can easily do better than this tip. Try the following:
C:\WINDOWS\EXPLORER.EXE /e,/root,YOUR-DIR
where YOUR-DIR is the subdirectory you want to be at the top of
the tree displayed by explorer. This way, if you want to start some
place deep in the subdirectory tree on your disk without all the
garbage showing above it,you see a neat display.
Example: c:\windows\explorer.exe /e,/root,c:\my documents
