Question about 'How do I install, remove, or re-install one of the components that came with Windows?'

I have heard that it is possible to copy cabinet files from Windows OS CD-ROMs to your hard drive, so that it is not necessary to put the Win CD back into the computer every time you want to adjust system files. Can anyone describe how that is done?
