I have a question about Connect
to a Windows XP or 2000 system with a Windows 95, 98, or Me system over a Network:
I am trying to set up a network and share a DSL connection using a hub with:
1. Win98SE machine (with the Internet connection and two network cards)
2. Windows2000 machine
I have followed the instructions on this site (and tried others as well) but can't
seem to share the Internet connection or see the other computer in either network
neighborhood. I can ping between each computer and get a response both ways. But,
when I try to see other computers on the 2000 machine, it gives me an error: 'network
is not accesible. The list of servers for this workgroup is not currently available.'
I don't know what this means or how to fix it and I am not familiar with Windows2000.
Any ideas?
I am:
- using TCP/IP protocol
- the workgroup is the same and computer IDs are different
- have made a new user on the Windows2000 machine that matches the Win98 Microsoft
Networking login (the password is blank though - is that a problem?) Should I try
to make a user on the Win98 machine that matches the Administrator login for 2000?
- Internet connection works fine on the Win98 machine.
I have followed the instructions. Am I missing something? Thanks for any advice!
