I have a comment about How
do I make the background of desktop icon text transparent?:
"Note: in all versions of Windows, Microsoft provides no way to change the color
of the text under desktop icons"
This is in fact not true. There is a program called Desktop Architect that allows
you to do just that. Well, sort of. It only allows you to choose from the colors
that have already been assigned to other items listed in the Appearance tab of Desktop
Properties. I'm not sure how he got it to work, but this must be an unavoidable
limitation. Unfortunately, the program is no longer being supported and the website
is gone, but the last release can be found at www.themedoctor.com/da.shtml
This feature can be set by going to the Tools menu, select Options, go to the Advanced
tab and check "Draw desktop icon text with". Here you can also set the option to
make the background of icon text trasparent as well. Even though it is no longer
supported it's still one of the best!
This program is supposed to support 95, 98, Me, and 2000, but I've only tested it
with 98 and 2000.
