I have the ultimate solution to Make
Control Panel Applets More Accessible:
Right click on your toolbar. Select Toolbars drop down menu and click on New Toolbar.
Now select Control Panel.
The control panel is now a component of your toolbar.
However this can be sort of cluttery, but this too can be fixed and presents an opportunity
to allow you to quickly navigate your entire computer with single mouse clicks.
After adding the control panel to your toolbar, you can click (but do not release)
on the control panel segment and drag it to the middle of your desktop. Now you should
have a free floating window. Now click and drag the window to any other edge of your
desktop and you should notice that it will become a toolbar.
I personally have a toolbar on all four corners of my screen and you can right click
each one and select auto-hide and always on top so that you maximize your screen
real estate (very nice) and you can easily get to your control panel just by moving
your mouse to that toolbar, it will automatically fly out to its open position, and
you are set to select your component.
I included segements for My Documents, MP3's, Favourites, an Address Bar, Windows
folder, Control Panel, Program Files folder, UnrealTournament folder, etc... All
of which is hidden from view, but I just move my mouse to the edge of the screen
that has what I'm looking for and "voila". I'm ready to rock and haven't even clicked
a thing yet. You can even set your Active Desktop to View as a Web Page (right click
desktop) and go to folder options and select the views tab and under Visual Settings
select hide desktop icons when viewed as a web page and then add the desktop to one
of your toolbars (as i did).
Windows blows on stability, but it sure is configurable as this is just the beginning
of what you can do. You can even launch programs from shortcuts that YOU define,
and then some.
Anyone interested in learning more about really configuring your Windoze box can
email me at eudaimonia@c4.com
thx.
