I have a question about Get
Rid of the Logon Screen:
Hello.
I have a mixed, network of about a dozen machines. Mostly Win98, but two XP machines,
and one Win95. It is setup as a purely peer to peer network. All are sharing files
and printers fine, with one hitch.
On one(!) Win98 PC, when the machine boots up, it cannot see the network at all.
The Logoff item on the startup menu says "Logoff..." (that is, it has no username).
I know this is a user/password/authentication issue, because if l Iogoff, get the
logon screen, and give it a username and a password, I can then see the network just
fine.
What I want to happen, is for the PC to boot up, and with no Logon prompt at all,
just boot up and see the network. Like all the other PCs in the office do. I _think_
I have the PC set up to only have one user (I guess don't really understand everything
about users on W98). I've tried changing the Primary Logon to Windows, and to MS
Network. I've used TweakUI, set to Logon automatically, and with the Clear Last Logon
on (and off, tried both), but nothing seems to work.
I've tried everything I could find, but to no avail. Clearly
I'm missing something somewhere. Any suggestions?
Much appreciated,
Jg
