I have a question about Resolving Hardware Conflicts:

I just installed an Acer 310P Scanner on a Win 98 machine. After installation two of my sound devices displayed problems with addresses in the device manager. The installation of the scanner had advised me to change my parallel Interface to either ECP or EPP Mode and use Address 278H or 378H. I did not do this. I first removed all of my audio and gaming devices and restarted. Windows found a modem and two out of four of my audio devices, loaded them and showed no conflicts. I do not need the modem, I have DSL. I ran the search for new hardware and windows found a MPU-401 device in the audio section. I have no idea what that is or if I had it before. The sound still does not work and everytime I reboot and the ESS Solo program trys to load into the Autoexec and Config files the computer freezes. I have to do a selective startup and bypass these items to get back into windows. Any ideas. Thanks
