Question about 'Get Rid of the Logon Screen'

I have an older laptop (97) from work that I once used on a daily basis to logon to our network. Therefore I have an "Enter Network Password" screen for Microsoft Networking pop up each time I boot. I've tried all the "fixes", including downloading Tweak UI, but still get the logon screen complete with user name, password, and domain. I'd like to get rid of it since I never use it at work anymore. I'm also afraid it may be causing me difficulty hitting my ethernet card, which is keeping me from accessing the internet.
