Question about 'When I choose ''Shut Down'' from the Start Menu, my computer hangs at the ''Please Wait'' screen'

I have a question about when I shut down my PC hangs at "windows is shutting down".It seems to happen after a lot of surfing on the web. That is to say if I start it, wait for the desktop then shut down ,it shuts down perfectly. Is there something I can do?
