Need to get to the COMMAND prompt FAST ? Just take a clean formatted diskette and
copy COMMAND.COM and IO.SYS from the C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND\EBD folder to it.
And that is ALL you need to get the A:\> prompt to load very quickly.[35 seconds
on average.]
The tip is to add Delindex.bat from: DELINDEX.BAT
Need to clean out ALL those bloat files and index.dat files with your old URLs? Just
type this:
A:\>delindex , and hit enter, read the screen, hit any key, then type R for Run.
You get a read-out of just how much disk space you have cleaned up!
For '98 just type ... win ... at the prompt and you are back in Windows!
For ME, take the bootdiskette out and do Ctrl+Alt+Del. It is that simple.
Ever stuck to get a file onto the disk where it needs to be then use the COPY command.
You can copy a file you added to this bootdisk to a hard disk-drive with:
e.g. A:\>copy a:\explorer.exe C:\WINDOWS , or, if the C:\Windows\Explorer.exe is
damaged, directly to C:\ and replace the one in the WINDOWS folder later.
All the necessary DOS COMMANDS
You should have one of these as well:
Windows Emergency BootDiskette, EBD STARTUP-DISK
If you want to save even more time with the QuickBootDisk add the following two lines
to a text file and then save it as an: autoexec.bat , file, and copy it to the QuickBootDisk.
SET COMSPEC=A:\COMMAND.COM
A:\Delindex.bat
This will bring you to the first menu in Delindex. Read the page and press any key.
Then type: R , to run the program.
If you want to, change the bottom line to:
A:\Delindex.bat run , with a space before run, and Delindex will run right through
to the final read out and the C:\> prompt.
Carry this diskette with you, and you can often use it to clear other computers,
get them started, and then copy Delindex.bat to their root directory. i.e. C:\Delindex.bat
, where it can be run as a scheduled task, to run at system start-up, in DOS and
before Windows loads, with the command line IN Task Scheduler of:
C:\Delindex.bat delta
TIP: At the command prompt type: A:\>ATTRIB /s index.dat , and press enter, to show
the five hidden index.dat files.
