I have a question about How do I get my sound card and CD-ROM drive to work in DOS?:

My computer says: " driver not found:"oemcd001". What do I have to do to boot my computer up so I can install W98(2)? S.Couprie

Hi, my response is a little out of date... I see that's benn posted on 2001. So, that goes... Make a startup disk in '98 and, at reboot, select start computer with cd-rom support, then hold down shift+F8 and select ms-dos mode ('command prompt only'). Or, you can add the following line to your config.sys file: 'lh c:\windows\command\mscdex.exe:0001 /x' where x is the letter assigned for your cd-rom drive (e.g., if you have two partitions or hard disks, then the letter assigned for the cd-rom would be e:, if you have three would be f: ans so on...). I hope that will do some work for somebody, i think that it is obsolete for the original user.

Recently found a MS page that dealt with re-activating a disabled CD-Rom Drive - go to Microsoft Knowledge Base Article - 135174 on the MS site and follow the instructions. Recently had occasion to test this procedure to get my brothers CD drive working again, and it did work.

If you have a working CDROM Drive, you can use a Win98 bootdisk (floppy) to startup
your computer. (It gives you an option to start up with support for CDROM).

It then loads up the default drivers for CDROMs, and you can then access your CDROM
like any other drive.

Once loaded up,
insert the Windows98 installation CD in the CDROM drive, and type:
:\setup
then press enter

All done!
