See the article: Command-Line Switches for Windows Explorer .

To get a two pane Explorer window with nothing expanded use the following in your shortcut:

Target: C:\Windows\EXPLORER.EXE /e,/select
Start in: \

I tried it out in Win2000, and all I got was a error box. However, after I removed the arguments after ".exe", everything was fine except that "My documents" is already opened. Does anybody knows the arguments for Win2000 that everything is closed?

Hehe! this crashes my explorer :-) To do this is simple, get into explorer, then tools->options->view settings uncheck "remember each folder settings" so simple, cheers Presley

After many trials and misses, I can unequivocally agree that the last one (%SystemRoot%\explorer.exe /n, /e,) is definitely the best and shortest route to having explorer open up with just "My Computer" highlighted in the left pane, and nothing expanded in the right pane...
