Question about 'Replace the Ugly Startup and Shutdown Screens'

I have a question about Replace the Ugly Startup and Shutdown Screens:

I have 98se and for some reason I absolutley cannot find logo.sys! I have all hidden files shown and I have searched everywhere for it with no results. I can easily find "logow.sys" and "logos.sys" but logo.sys is strangely absent from my harddrive. I looked in both partitions, and all of the subfolders. I am dual booting with 2000 on another partition, but that shouldnt have anything to do with it. Where is logo.sys???? It shows up when I boot!

Download System mechanic you can get it from cnet download.com it is a 30 day trial but it has an option to get rid of those startup screens along with a bunch of other system cleanup utilities

I believe that logo.sys is imbeded in io.sys and if there is no logo.sys in the root directory then windows will use it. You can replace any or all of these with ones of your choosing or you can disable them. While I am sure that it can be done by editing the registry most people find it easier to use some type "tweaking" program to make such changes. One that I have used can be downloaded from here XSetup

Carl is correct. There is no default logo.sys in 98, as it is embedded in io.sys. However any validly formatted bmp file can be named logo.sys and placed in C:\, and it will override the default.

By the way, this has been discussed in this forum at least three times in the last 2 weeks. Please use the search function before posting.

Can you please update your article on replacing the startup screen to include the fact that there is no default logo.sys to replace.
