Quint,

Are you referring to "Startup" tab in msconfig? If so I have the answer if you still
need it. Post a reply to this reply and I will answer.

I would like to know how to remove duplicate entries in msconfig's Startup tab. Thanks.

Lance, The first place (easiest) to try is the "startup" folder in the Windows directory (windos\sysbackup\start menu\startup). There are links in the folder that you can remove. However, many times programs put their startup info in the registry. If you're comfortable with messing around in the registry, let me know and I'll give you directions as to where the listing are. If you are not comfortable with the registry, get a program such as Xteq X-system (xteq.com) that lists the startup programs and will allow you to edit them. Hope this helps - if not get back to me with your questions.

Lannyp, I am comfortable editing the registry. Would appreciate directions on which keys to fix (or delete). Thanks, Lance

Lance, Ok, here we go. There are two "official" locations for programs to post their startup parameters in the registry. They are keys HKCU and HKLM. Under these keys you have to go to software\microsoft\windows\currentversion and there you will find "Run" and "RunOnce" folders. There is also a "RunServices" and maybe a "RunServicesOnce" folder in key HKLM. In these folders you will find the startup listings and you can do with them what you will. You may also find at these same locations "Run-", "Run_disabled", RunServices-", etc. These are where diabled startups are stored. If these registry entries still don't get you where you want to go, then you may have to do a search in the registry using the startup parameters of the program in question. If you have older software, the startup params may be in the system.ini or windows.ini files. Hope this helps. Let me know if it doesn't and we'll probe deeper. Lannyp
