Tip, make sure you check your firewall software

I have a suggestion about Getting
Network Neighborhood to recognize newly attached computers:
If you have zonealarm or some other firewall software installed in one or more of
the computers, you may need to tell it that that the others are in local lans. This
treats them as more trusted than machines on the internet and lets the machine respond
to more ports and protocols. If you don't do this, network neighborhood may not
see other local machines.

Hi Jeff
I have ZoneAlarm installed on both computers and could not get either computer to
recognize the other until I shut down ZoneAlarm on both. I am sure I have ZoneAlarm
correctly setup. The only setting I thought may have been the problem was in Securtity
where I unchecked the box 'Block Local Servers' on both machines. Do you know of
any other setting that may need to be changed? Thanks.
Ron

I went to Security settings, clicked the Advanced button, and checked the box next
to my LAN card to tell it to consider that a local zone. I don't think I added the
other PC explicitly.

Press the advanced button in the Security section. Now add both the IP Numbers and
the Subnet Numbers for both machines.
You can find this info by typing in IPCONFIG at the command prompt...
I had to work this out today :) I am not sure that it is the most elegant solution
but it works !!
