Question about 'How do I install, remove, or re-install one of the components that came with Windows?'

Ok, I run W98SE. I would like to know how to completely get rid of the annoying
'Task Scheduler'. I had this thing out of my system once, by following Ed Bott's
advice-however, I had to do a complete reboot, and, dummie me, didn't write down
the instructions.
I do not use Task Scheduler, don't ever intend to, just want to get rid of it completely.
Have asked this question before, and have received only answers as to how to shut
it off----Jeez, anyone knows how to do that! I want to completely remove it and
it's function along with the icon in the taskbar. Any Help???
Also, I have a problem with 'sound stutter'. Also fixed that once but, alas, again
forgot how to rectify it. Any suggestions on that would also be appreciated.
Thank you, Bill

Open task scheduler and on the menu bar click on Advanced >> Stop Using Task Scheduler..........then
close it.

>Curt, you didn't read all of my message. Yes, this will get rid of the task scheduler,
but this must be done each and every time one fires up the puter. Your suggestion
is a 'given'. That is not what I want to do--read my question again---I want to get
the Task Scheduler completely out of my system. It can be done, I just don't remember
how to do it. I seem to remember it involves some tinkering with the registry.
Thanks for answering, anywho. Bill.

Not sure who ED BOTT is. If you got advice from this website - just search for him
- or if he is somewhere on the net, try searching with Google.com

If you have Windows Update Notification installed, you
need to uninstall that first. Then do as Curt said.

Hi,Go to run type msconfig press enter, look in the
startup tab or one of the others for update notifier
clear the check marks to disable it just in case you
may want to use it again or uninstall as Paul

I too tried everything. The regedit, wasnt there for some reason this time. Msconfig, again,
it wasnt there either. Clicking Disable didnt work in the Scheduler properties. So
instead, I searched for mstask.exe in C:\windows\system directory and renamed it
mstask.bak. No more problems. If you find it interferes with programs that may need
it, just rename mstask.bak back to mstask.exe Good luck.
P.S. Im also running Win98SE

Here is your answer;
Go to www.experts-exchange.com/Operating_Systems/ Win98/Q_20300459.html.
This site will answer your question in the first part of it. Someone had a similiar
problem to yours and it is answered at the top of the page. I hope this helps you.
Don't forget to reboot when you are finished.
Take care;

Task Scheduler is automatically installed in some versions of Windows, and also when
you install Internet Explorer. This tweak will remove it from your system.
Open your registry and find the key below.
There should be a value named 'SchedulingAgent' which is set to equal 'mstask.exe',
this is the entry that loads the Task Scheduler. Delete this value to stop the task
manager loading again.
Registry Settings:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunServices]
Value Name: SchedulingAgent
Data Type: REG_SZ (String Value)
Data: mstask.exe
