Might be time for a new battery for your motherboard.

My Windows 98 computer keeps doing the same thing. Every time I log on, it resets the calendar back to January 1, 1997 at around 9:00 am. I don't think the battery is the whole problem, since our other computer (which needs a new battery for the motherboard) just starts at the point where I logged off. (Ex: If I logged off at 7:35 pm on August 3, 2002, it reads as 7:36 pm on August 3 when I log on again.) I tried downloading a clock that said it will update your time based on the atomic clock, but it doesn't seem to be working.
