You should find the driver for the PCI mass storage controller on the CD or floppy disk that came with your motherboard.

USB 2.0 on newer mobos could be a problem if running an OS earlier than Win XP. Until the industry gets drivers certified for Win ME or Win98 2nd ed. the only solution I have found is to disable USB 2.0 support in your bios. This should eliminate Yellow question marks and exclamation points in Device Manager.

Jeff , I have the same issue, if you go to settings- controll panel - add new hard ware let this search for any devices you may have, you probably have the ( ! ) for the P.C.I. card there. this means that the drivers are not insalled , or the wrong drivers are installed, you will have to do what I have to do. Take the pci card out of your C.P.U. and write down the make/model # and any other numbers that you find on the card, re-install pci card and the cables. ( should have the hard drive connected to it ). Then try and locate the manufacturer to get the correct drivers.

Install Win95-98 Promise Ultra 100 IDE Controller Driver manually. 1. Press "Start" button. 2. Move highlight bar to "Settings" and select "Control Panel". 3. Double click on "System" icon. 4. Select "Device Manager" page. 5. View device by type and find "Other devices" node. 4. Select the "PCI Mass Storage Controller" node and then click the "Properties" button. 6. Please select [General] page to reinstall driver or select [Driver] page to update driver. 7. Follow the instruction to insert your Windows CD or ASUS support CD to install the driver. (Driver Location: {CD-ROM driver}:\Promise\Win95-98)

In my device manager, I have a ?/! on a PCI Mass Storage Controller. Any ideas what this is about? The exclamation mark indicates that the drivers for the PCI Mass Storage Controller are not installed. Search or run dxdiag (DirectX Diagnostic tool) to show you what kind of PCI Mass Storage Controller your PC have (and other valuable information concerning other hardware/drivers etc on your PC). Check whether any drivers are installed and the manufacturer of the PCI Mass Storage Controller hardware. Then go to PCI Mass Storage Controller Manufacturer and get the drivers and install in your PC then the ? exclamation mark is gone and u are happy I hope.
