Stan: the following articles deal with VXD error messages. Enter each in turn into the special box for article IDs on the MS search page: Q137454 Q189610 Q189655 Q190915 Q192925 Q243037 Q256850 Q302826

Mary: use the link below after your text to get started with the first URL.

then to move onto the next article; highlight the current URL in the address bar
with your cursor, then click the URL near the right-end until the highlight goes
away.
then move your cursor to the far right-end and then Backspace key to the "q"
then type in the numbers for the next article and hit the Enter key. Voila!

if that doesn't work for you, then use the second link below to get to the opening
page of the MS Knowledge Base.
then scroll down past the halway point and you will see a box where you can enter
the article numbers and click on the Go button (or press the Enter key).

post back here if more help is needed...

Everett Since you clearly know what you are talking about, can I ask if oyu kbow what to do if the fault code "mxpre" appears during start-up on my laptop please? 3 out of 4 times it will run if I click continue, otherwise the pc freezes. Thanks in advance for any help you can give me. Rgds Robert

robert: that's a tough one, "mxpre" was not on the web sites i rely on; there was
only a hint on one search that mxpre may have something to do with:

Fantasy Motocross League

try a Run: msconfig
and check the Startup tab and see if any "suspects" need to be unchecked.

let us know what you find...

I too have been having vxd errors ....I have done a complete recovery and still I get them. I can't run any programs(norton, file check, defrag. and so on) because the puter freezes up and once again I get the vxd errors. I have tried everything in all the articles I have found and nothing helped. Any test I have been able to complete on the drivers has come up clean. The only thing I have noticed is that the vxd files have no driver imformation at all (manufacturer name and so on). I am totally amazed at all the other complaints I am seeing on the net regarding this vxd issue in win95 & 98. Is this a flaw??? I am wondering if a patch should be introduced? So sorry for the babbling but I am at my witts end! Does anyone have any other suggestions to fix this problem besides all the ones I have tried on the MS knowledge base. Also my puter will not shut down completely (another consistant problem I have been hearing about in win98). Could both problems be connected? PLEASE anyone who can help ......... Lesia :)
