If you right click on the taskbar then go to toolbars then check quick lauch it'll show up on the taskbar. Now minimize all windows. Click and drag the quick lauch toolbar to the top, left or right. Then drag shortcuts onto the quick launch toolbar. One click access to anything you want!

In XP or 2000 you don't even need to run the Explorer shell... Simply CTRL ALT DEL- go to your processes and end Explorer.exe; You'll notice your entire desktop closes and you are left with a empty background... At that point switch over to your Applications TAB and click new task and browse to the desired app... If you want to get the desktop back click New Task and type Explorer.exe.. Have Fun

This might be more useful advice. If you have multiple users on Win 95/98 and you are creating a new account, it gives you the option to add the start menu or not. Just uncheck the box. Once you enter the account, you'll see that the start menu is gone (I'm not sure. I haven't used Win 98 in a few years.)

Is there a way to keep Explorer.exe from starting when you log on?
