Invalid page fault involving the COMCTL32.DLL file

Since I have installed Explorer 6, when using some applications, I often get an invalid
page fault, that is related to the COMCTL32 dynamic link library.
The error occurs at a specific moment, which is when the application attempts to
"perform" a list of parameters or files, and write them in a list box.
For instance, that specific error occurs when opening the WinZip application, since
it has to build a list of all the files that are contained in the archive. Same
result when attempting to build an on-screen a list of parameters, in a list box.
I have tried to re-install older versions of the COMCTL32.DLL file, but I still get
the Invalid page fault notice, as if the problem was related to some minor Windows
application shared by many (or all) programs, which was uniquely meant to build lists.
The error occurs also when running Windows 98 in the "safe mode".
What can I do ?

Have you tried running Windows Update? I have noticed that some of the 'security
fixes' that are listed actually fix bugs in IE6...

I have not tried yet the Windows update. I will. I hope that will fix my problem.
Thanks for the suggestion.
