Question about 'Do I still need CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT?'

I have a question about Do
I still need CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT?: My PC is currently showing three
different config.sys files; one is under C:\, one is under Norton System Works (for
my rescue disk - so it says, though I've never made one), and one is in something
called Windows\Command\EBD (I've no clue where this one came from). Is it truly safe
to delete all of these? I am experiencing all kinds of problems with my Win '98 system,
and wonder if this is a part of it.

You can't just arbitrarily delete autoexec.bat and config.sys without the possiblility
of messing up some crucial portions of your system.
Instead of that, try using the utility that comes with windows 98 to try turning
things on/off in your autoexec and config.
START, RUN, "msinfo32.exe".
Click "Tools" on the menu.
Select "System Configuration Utility"
You will see tabs for autoexec and config
Here you can check/uncheck any line in these files.
You needn't worry about the source files, as windows only processes checked items
found here.
