Get an Anti virus program and use it and update it regularly.
Here's a link to a good free one.

And/or use a firewall such as ZoneAlarm.

Bob, the only feature I don't like and don't use with Zone Alarm is
the one that renames email attachment extensions. I had an awful
time trying to open the attachment when I wanted to. By the way, I
visited an University site yesterday and got pinged twice (blocked
by Zone Alarm) afterwards. Were they attempting to hack me?

Brian, I agree it's a pain to be changing extensions but I need maximum protection with my computer illiterate family Networked in on another machine.

Regarding the pings that ZA picks up, I've traced a few but never found out what might have happened without ZA. I'm totally dumb when it comes to that kind of hacking.

The best way to protect your self is to have OE use the restricted site zone settings
in the restricted zone turn everthing to disable off or prompt

when you down load the restrict site list and unzip it it will have a read me file

Sometimes when you visit sites they attempt to keep track of who has visited them. I don't really know how it works, but it seems to result in a ZoneAlarm alert. Nothing to worry about I don't think.

with an antivirus software, also try using an anti-spam software. a good one is Mailwasher Pro from www.firebreach.com. It's free for the first 30 days, then you can purchase it after. It works excellent in alerting you to keep spam and viruses away from your mail.
