Question about 'What to do about error messages during Windows startup'

I have a question about What
to do about error messages during Windows startup:
Upon start up today I recieved an error message saying that a file that ran windows
or a windows application was missing. It went on to say that I should remove the
application it was associated with and reinstall it. The file was vserver.vxd.
Then windows 98 immediately shut down. I found this file and copied it from A: to
C: from the dos prompt. Now windows just begins to start and then shuts down without
any warning. Ideas?

- see this Microsoft article: Vserver.vxd
File Not Found When You Start Your Computer (Q194990) - the file should be
in the Windows\System folder, but check article first.

Now windows just begins to start and then shuts down without any warning.
two possibilities:
1) wininit.exe is missing or damaged.
2) vmm32.vxd is missing or damaged.
if it's the former, simply replacing the file should fix it. if it's the latter,
an over the top install if the operating system should do it (no data loss, normally).

Boot to DOS again, and move it from C: to C:\Windows\System

I read the article at Microsoft for extracting the file for vserver.vxd. I would
like to add both my laptop and desktop through my router so I can share files and
the printer. Do you have any suggestions how to do this.
