win98 upgrade to 98SE

i cant upgrade win98FE to win98SE with the full install CD ..
is there a way to make it work ?
ps: i was told to rename win.com before setup but it doesnt work for me .. keeps
saying i have another version of win installed and that i need an upgrade CD !

once you rename win.com, you need to run setup from dos.

next step : in which directory should i install windows ? overwriting the old c:\windows
or the new one setup propose by default i.e c:\windows.000 ? what will happen with
apps then ?

ahh, i see you got it working :) install to the same directory as the previous install
(c:\windows\). installing to any other will leave you with two windows directories...
if you delete the original, you'll have to reinstall some programs. if you install
to the same directory, everything should be left intact.
