Question about 'What to Throw Away'

I have a question about http://www.annoyances.org/exec/show/article05-008, What to Throw Away. It seems to me that there are hundreds more files that Windows installs that can be thrown away, and I'd like to know if there's a complete list posted anywhere. For instance, there are over 100 mb of files in the c:\windows\options\cabs sub-directories that I've deleted with no apparent ill efects. I haven't deleted the files in the cabs directory itself, but I suspect that I can. I'd like to delete every file in the c:\windows directory and subdirectories that is not needed to run windows. This article lists some, but there seem to be plenty more. If anyone can help, please email me at pww@stargate.net. Thanks.

The files in the "c:\windows\options\cabs" directory are the setup files copied from the win98 or win95 cd. Not all files from the cd are copied to this directory, just the cabinet files, if I remember correctly. Yes, you can delete the entire options directory to free up space, and you may see no change to your system. However, if your system has been set up properly, Windows knows that its setup files are in this location and if the windows setup files are required for installation of a program, it will grab them from here automagically, with out asking for your win9x cd. Deleteing the options directory can be a trade off of convenience for space. Ana T.
