Question about 'Prevent New Users From Logging In'

I
keep others out by setting supervisor's password in cmos.
The password has to be entered before Windows loads. Not
top notch security since password not too hard to find for
a determined intruder but I find it adequate for my publicly accessible
machine.

Ummm, what stops anyone from taking out the cmos battery, and resetting cmos completely?

Sh-h-h nobody is supposed to know about that ;-)
Seriously, the intruder would have to open up the
case and wait a 1/2 hour or more and in that time the hard drive could be copied
and bugged. One could lock the case or use special screws
if security requirements were so demanding or put it
in a locked closet or encrypt everything. I don't have a
privacy problem; I just want to keep out those who would
try experiments on a public computer that they would
not dream of doing on their own computer.

Uh, why take out the battery? can't you just move a few jumpers to disable the password
option completely? Then you don't have to wait for 1/2 hour.
And I agree, most people don't know either method and it isn't neccessary to prepare
against unless your a business or something.
