I don't know the names offhand but their
are smaer download programs that will
resume where you left off when you reconnect.

If you haven't done this, go to Control Panel>Internet Options>Connections>Settings>Advanced>Uncheck
'Disconnect if idle for....minutes'. If your ISP has a default disconnect after,
say, 30 minutes, then set you email checker to check every 15 minutes as Peter suggested.
