Question about 'What to do about error messages during Windows startup'

I have a question about What
to do about error messages during Windows startup: Before I get to the windows
screen, a DOS screen comes up and tells me there is a problem with the registry and
to hit enter and the system will correct it. Sometimes it goes through this 3 or
four times before windows starts. It happens everytime I turn on the computer. I
have reformatted the hard drive, reloaded windows 98, and it still happens everytime.

when this problem is recurrent the culprit is normally faulty ram. try reseating
the module(s) and see what happens. if the situation doesn't improve, temporarily
replace the module(s) with some known working ram. if the problem disappears, then
i guess you're in the market for some new ram. suggested brand: crucial.

hi stu,
i understand ur problem. I too had faced this similar problem, all i had to do is
reformat my system and the problem was solved.
it was suprising to see that the problem continued after formatting in ur case.
Firstly u will have 2 create a start up disk...ie. u must be able 2 access the CD
ROM when u start from the disk...u create it by going to the control panel->add remove
programs -> start up disk-> create disk
try doing this
press F8 when windows starts....and choose the command prompt option.
or else boot from the start up disk floppy...
and run "scanreg/fix" or "scanreg/restore" i dont remeber the command properly...or
simply type "scanreg"
if this doesnt solve the problem
try re-partioning ur system...
i hope u know how to partition ur system
use "fdisk" to partition ur system....
before that make sure u back up ur data on a different hard disk.
if u dont know how 2 partition...mail me at
"riteshdas238@yahoo.co.in" i'll gladly help u out...
after u partition ur hard drive...format it...
DONT USE QUICK FORMAT....proceed with the normal format
"format c:"
"format d:" etc.
the boot from ur start up disk. start computer with CD ROM support.
then insert the Win 98 CD ROM....in the drive...and then re-install the OS.
if this doesnt solve it...then there could be only two reasons...
1. problem with the hard disk(boot sector portion) [uve to replace the hard drive
in this case]
2. problem with the Operating System... try installing it from another Win98 CD...or
Win2000,Me,Xp.
bye...hope this resloves ur issue
