I have a question about Get Rid of the Logon Screen:

Hi I did everything in this article and now the screen pops up after I sign on to AOL Eanter Network Password for Microsoft Networking In the User Name box a name appears that I had put in. What do I do to stop this box from coming up. Help

First off, if you have Client for MS installed in the Network applet, remove it.
You don't need it, unless you're networked.

1. Go to Start>Find>Files & Folders... type in *.pwl and delete all .pwl files in
c:\windows

2. Go to start>Run, type sysedit. Maximize the system.ini
Delete all lines under
[Password Lists]

3. Go to ControlPanel>Network
Choose Windows Logon as Primary Login

Reboot

You should now get the login box one last time. Type in your name. Just click OK
for no password.

Not yet, try:
Backup the registry and/or export the following keys:
go to Start>Run, type regedit. Navigate to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\windows\current version\network\real mode net\
Right-click on Real Mode Net, choose new>Binary value, name it AutoLogon
and give it a value of 01 00 00 00.

i had the same problems a sydney, so i followed your directions, and now have a complete nightmare on my hands! all of my settings for everything have been erased, including very important ones like all of my autocorrect and autotext entries, all my macros, everything is gone! please help! and the worst part is that i spent 5 painstaking hours last night retyping all that stuff in, and i start Microsoft Word today and everything has been deleted AGAIN! When i started Microsoft Word, i think a box came up called "Windows Installer" and it said "Preparing to install" and then it went away and another box came up for Microsoft Word that said something like "Please wait while we reconfigure your settings for microsoft word". i need serious help from someone so that all my settings stop resetting. i am a medical transcriptionist and need my settings to remain. i would be so, so grateful. Amy p.s. is there any way to get the old settings back?

Amy,

This thread is 6 mos. old, and following the instructions here may not have even
applied to you.

This is only about getting rid of Windows logon window, and there's nothing in these
instr. that should give anyone a nightmare, unless it doesn't apply to them!

You may have other circumstances to take into consideration. You need to post a new
message of your own, since my reply wasn't to you, and this thread being 6 mos. old
is hundreds of pages back.

My OS is Win. ME. I got rid of the logon screen on startup and followed all suggestions from your forum and I can't get rid of the one that pops up in AOL when I sign on. It keeps asking for a domain name???? I couldn't find anything about it popping up in AOL on the OS, Win Me, so I used Win98. Please help. Thanks, Jeannette
