Question about 'How do I reboot Windows 98?'
Thursday, April 4, 2002 at 7:01 pm

I have a question. How do you reboot widows 98? I read the books and manuals that my computer came with and the don't say anything about rebooting a computer. When I say reboot, I mean, start windows fresh, not restarting it.

You turn the computer off. Then you turn it on again.

Or is this a trick question?

Reboot means to restart!! You're obviously using the wrong term for what you're asking. Are you talking about reformatting, wiping out your hard drive to do a fresh install of Windows?? CJ

Ok... How do you not know what reboot means?? REBOOT... Remove all files EXCEPT the files that came with your computer. Example: You just brought a new computer. So basically, make your computer new!! Now, hopefuly someone will understand what I mean... Reboot= restarting your computer? NO! Not that kind of reboot!

Apparently the "preview" thing is pretty messed up.... I had written a nice, long thing about how reboot is to restart, and that during an OS installation it often reboots the computer during the course of it... Then I came up with a brilliant comparison of your statement, to people saying that a car engine they are cranking (you hear the rrr-rrrr-rrrr and it even sputters a bit like it's about to catch) "doesn't turn over". It's obviously a misunderstanding as to what the word "reboot" means, a misunderstanding on your part. However, thanks to the "preview" button, my reply will never be seen in its original, hard-hitting, edgy, in-your-face style. Sigh.

You make no sense whatsoever!!! Is this some kind of a joke or.....???? There's only one kind of reboot. Whatever it is you want to accomplish, I doubt you could handle it anyway. BTW, are you on drugs???? CJ

You have the completly wrong idea of what the word "reboot" means, all reboot means is basically shutting down windows 98 and re-starting it again....if you want your PC setup the same as it was when you got it, put in those restore disks( if you got any). I suggest looking at a glossary of computer terms! and buy some PC magazines.

I had a virus that does not allow me to play my video games such as scrabble and virtual pool. I get a message that says CCore Screen!!Init Fail and Set Display Mode FAILED so...........a tech friend suggested that I reboot (reinstall) windows 98 from the boot disk. However, it doesn't do anything because it requires DOS commands. That doesn't help me at all. Any help for me, I'm addicted to scrabble.
