Question about 'What do I do with ''unknown'' devices in Device Manager?'

I have a question about What do I do with "unknown" devices in Device Manager?:

I unplugged my computer and replugged it into another wall outlet. Since then I get "unknown device" with my digital camera, and no amount of reloading the drivers results in my camera being recognized by the system. When I push the "reinstall driver" button, I get the Blue Screen of Death every time. It asks for Mxcap2.sys file from Win98 CD but can't find it on the CD when I insert it. Thank you for any help anyone can give.

Try booting into safe mode.Open control panel>system>device manager click on the unknown device and delete it . Then start up as usual, Windows may say it has found a new device and will attempt to install it for you.Click have disk (assuming you have them for your camera) and install from them. Hope this may help. Post back

Windows will normally not reinstall your driver if a driver of the same name, date, size exist...Therefore, you might do well to go to the system32 folder and delete the appropriate driver before reinstalling.
