Question about 'What do I do with ''unknown'' devices in Device Manager?'

I have a question about What
do I do with "unknown" devices in Device Manager?:
I unplugged my computer and replugged it into another wall outlet. Since then I get
"unknown device" with my digital camera, and no amount of reloading the drivers results
in my camera being recognized by the system. When I push the "reinstall driver" button,
I get the Blue Screen of Death every time. It asks for Mxcap2.sys file from Win98
CD but can't find it on the CD when I insert it.
Thank you for any help anyone can give.

Try booting into safe mode.Open control panel>system>device manager click on the
unknown device and delete it . Then start up as usual, Windows may say it has found
a new device and will attempt to install it for you.Click have disk (assuming you
have them for your camera) and install from them. Hope this may help. Post back

I have printed the instructions out, thank you so much. The camera manufacturer says
it is the camera but I tried it on someone else's machine and it works fine, so it's
beginning to look more and more like my machine has skipped a cog.

Windows will normally not reinstall your driver if a driver of the same name, date,
size exist...Therefore, you might do well to go to the system32 folder and delete
the appropriate driver before reinstalling.
