Q: Competing Splash Screens: Zone Alarm & McAfee

I have a question about Get
Rid of Irritating Splash Screens:
I have Zone Alarm V 2.6.88 and McAfee Virus Scan V4.5.1 loading upon start-up. The
two splash screens often conflict with each other (and maybe the programs too ?)
and they occasionally cause problems as a result. I checked for .VSH files, but don't
see one for this version of McAfee Virus Scan. Is there a way to disable these two
splash screens, or atleast set a specific order to which they load (is it my imagination
or does the load order of start-up items change with each start-up)? Thanks!

I don't think disabling the splash screens will solve the problem. The only function
of a splash screen is to put some eye candy on the screen whilst a program initialises.
If there is a conflict, it is likely to be with the programs themselves. Check the
ZA and McAfee sites to see if the problem is listed there.

Thanks Michael I will take your advice about checking out the potential conflicts.
However, part of the immediate issue is that the two graphics converge upon each
other, and the overlapped parts like to stay on my screen once in a while when this
happens. Any short-term suggestions to get rid of the splash screens of one or the
other of these two programs?

SME, try this for Zone alarm;
Navigate your way to the Windows folder.
Then, All Users; Start Menu; Programs; Start Up; ZoneAlarm. Right click ZA icon.
Properties; Shortcut tab; then type after the target -nopopup -nosplash.
*Note* the (-) minus signs in front of nopopup, nosplash.
OK. Hope this helps
If u don't have Default.vsh on ur system for McAfee, then I'm at a lose as to how
u can kill the McAfee beast.

Hi Sme if you right click the shortcut to Zonealarm in your Quicklaunch toolbar &
hit properties then add this into the Target window >>> -nosplash <<< without
<<<>>> of course. So it will look like this "C:\Program Files\Zone Labs\ZoneAlarm\zonealarm.exe"
-nosplash
Then hit apply & ok all is fixed. . post back with results
Good Luck

Edward! Thanks so much! With the competing splash screens now both bypassed, my computer
loads suprisingly quicker & no more conflicts! Thanks for providing the McAfee fix!

Make sure you have your settings adjusted to "view all files" AND do a Find for *.vsh.
You are looking for your default which may be renamed. Make sure you make the changes
to the file in your McAfee directory.
To "view all files", double-click My computer;
DC View;
DC Folder options;
Click the View tab;
Look at Hidden files and check "view all files".

Get Rid of Zone Alarm Splash Screen like this....

You can get rid of Zone Alarm's splash screen by adding -nosplash to it's shortcut
icon. So go to your startup folder, right-click on your ZA shortcut, select properties
and in the target text box, add a space and then -nosplash, press OK to accept this
change.
