Question about 'How to Exit to DOS'

I have a question about How
to Exit to DOS:
I am running windows 98 on an HP computer with 800MHZ procecessor and with 768 Megs
of RAM. When I attempt to click on MS-DOS Prompt I get an message telling me that
I do not have enough memory to run this program. This does not seem to be logical
at all as I have at least 600Megs of Ram available.
I am beginning to wander if some small file that is needed for dos to access the
memory has been accidently deleted or something. Any help and/or suggestions as to
what I might try would be gratefully appreciated. Oh and I can get to the dos prompt
by rebooting in Dos Mode.
Thanks,
David Jones

Another one with over 512MB RAM...

It really is very pointless putting that much RAM in a Windows 9x machine as it finds
it difficult to address it. Unless the machine is a busy file server, it's not really
going to ever be able to use it either.

Unless you do video editing on your system. Rendering depends on total RAM. I do
a project at school but instead of it taking a couple hours on the 128MB RAM machine
to render, I do it at home with 768MB in a few minutes.
Just started getting the out of memory message for DOS and Win32 when I tried to
setup DSL.
