Question about 'Stop Windows from Wildly Accessing your Hard Disk'

Hi, I m running 98 on a hewlett Packard Pavillion lap top...I ve been using a DC car plug to run the computer on long car trips and it would freeze up from time to time. I thought that it was the system trying to recharge the battery because when I removed the battery, I wouldnt have the freezing problem....but now, it does it all the time...even if Im plugged into a regular wall socket....( battery or no battery and it doesnt matter what is or isnt running...) I can have one program running and it will still hang up for about 5 to 10 seconds....Does anyone have a clue about this? What is causing it and how to fix it? Its really driving me nuts! ( especially when Im trying to watch a DVD movie... :OD ) thanks in advance. marci

Marci: a trip to a tech shop might be your best bet. Ask them to look for:
1. temperature running hot? Are the cooling fans operating?
2. PSU adequate? need higher wattage rating?
3. need update the BIOS? flash upgrade?
4. check the default video setting in the BIOS.
5. faulty RAM?
6. loose card(s) or connection(s)?
7. need to lower the system clock in BIOS?

Print out this list and give it to the tech.
